Southampton vs Sheffield United Match Preview

With just one win from their last nine Premier League assignments, Sheffield United's form on the road has deprived them of the chances to qualify for the Europa League this term.

The Blades' problems were largely able to create the possibility of a move away from Brammel Lane and not being able to score - as evidenced by their terrific comeback with just three goals from the nine game spells mentioned.

United failed to score in four of their last five Tests, and spread to a total of nine Premier Leagues since the end of December and we think their lack of attacking pressure will have to put them back on Sunday.

Southampton, though, have scored modest goals on their own, especially at St. Mary's Stadium, where the Saints have conceded one or fewer goals in eight of their last 10 games.

Surprisingly, the vast majority of these fixtures are the result of low scoring - in fact, 80% of these 10 matches have been netted under 2.5 goals.

Interestingly, Sheffield United scored less than 2.5 goals in 80% of their last ten fixtures, with deflector forward play and strong blades defending to keep the target low.

Considering these factors, the under-2.5 goal market again shows an avenue of efficiency here, although our accurate score prediction suggests the in-form Saints eventually win 1-0 against United Clothing which regularly comes to a halt on their tour.

Southampton beat Sheffield United in September when the teams faced off in their reverse league fixtures and have averaged 0.9 goals per 90 minutes in the last ten home matches, a single goal win showing the upper limit of their attacking ability.

Sophie Buffalo and Moussa Zenpro are the only sure absentees from Southampton before their final game, although Jan Bednarek and Nathan Tela have also been identified as suspects.

If Bednarek fails to recover, Jannick Westergaard should be drafted into the Central Defense Forces. Elsewhere, midfielder Pierre-Emile Hodgson is unlikely to move away from the club on the horizon in the summer.
